The concept for this piece was comfort. I love bears and think that being able to stay in my cozy bed for months at a time. The reference photo is that of a bear in a cave esc area in hibernation or resting at the very least. With the concept of Elimination- removing things. I felt that this would connect to how I am feeling going into the second semester. From the comfort of only two art classes and two spares, going into three core classes and a class (technically a spare) to work on homework and stay caught up in my classes. I had two master artists, one the main inspiration piece was a painting with warm colours. Yes my painting doesn't have many warm colours in comparison to the piece that inspired me however I think that the warm yellow/orange background wash helps pull that in.
I believe that my piece shows that I am able to work under pressure and time constraints. My pieces in the end pretty much always end better than the sketchbook planning, this one isn't an exception to that trend. The final painting has a more cohesive, warm look to it in comparison to the thumbnail.
