At the start of the project the 20s class was doing intaglios, seeing that made me want to do it again. The inspiration was from the instructions during art 20, ‘if you don't know what to do, do architecture’. After finding a master artist and a piece that I was inspired by a wood cut print, because that would take a lot of skill and time-- obviously I didn’t do a wood print, but I still made a print. Because someone told me that ‘‘I just like to put more effort into my art than you do’’ I decided I would do a highly labor intensive form of art.
I definitely took a risk with this piece as I typically go for things that are more organic for references, however I believe that I grew as an artist by going out of my comfort and choosing a non-organic for my reference. My sketchbook planning was something that really helped me get through the project, from choosing multiple photos as idea references, to sketching multiple of them out in my planning as well as sketching out my master artist inspiration piece.
